CCTC MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the CCTC to help nourish and cultivate youths into outstanding athletes to be the leaders of tomorrow.  To acquire knowledge, develop life skills, promote healthy self-esteem and positive behavior that will allow them to be productive and contributing members of society.

CCTC Objectives

The CCTC objectives are (1) to provide recreation and physical activity for each youth; (2) to provide healthy social and emotional development; (3) to build the awareness of our community concerning the importance of fitness; (4) to provide an activity that both parents and youths can do together to obtain healthier bodies; (5) to improve the reading dynamics and mathematical skills of our elementary and middle school students; (6) and improve ACT and SAT test scores for our high school students.

We encourage the participation of our children in planning, carrying out, and evaluating activities that give them choices about what they can make, do or play.  Our children learn by doing.  Therefore, CCTC gives children the opportunity to master new skills by providing developmentally appropriate opportunities for them to learn.

CCTC Information, Guidelines, and Expectations for Parents and Athletes

The CCTC staff understands that being a parent is often challenging and being a parent of an athlete further complicates this effort and responsibility. The following information, within the guidelines and expectations, gives some insight into this responsibility. Please be advised that the CCTC Coaching Staff will not tolerate inappropriate behavior by individuals who represent the club, parents, or any other spectator. One must also understand that athletes may be suspended from athletic competitions and parents and spectators could be asked to leave an event if their behavior warrants such action. In addition, please remember the importance and responsibility of being a good role model while understanding some of the important relationships that are involved with being an athlete and the parent of an athlete.

The Player – Coach Relationship:

The player-coach relationship is perhaps the most critical relationship in athletics and a parent can play a major role in cultivating this positive, yet delicate relationship. Parents have the opportunity to positively or negatively affect the player-coach relationship and must consider the importance of encouraging successful interactions. While one may not agree with all decisions made by a coach, how and when one expresses their feelings could have a definite effect upon the athlete. Regardless, the thoughts and convictions of each parent will undoubtedly be brought to each meet and practice through their student-athlete and thus will greatly affect this delicate relationship. So, parents, we are asking for everyone to be POSITIVE! Our athletes need to experience togetherness and oneness with our entire group. Remember they don’t make athletes as good as those running for “CCTC!”

The Parent – Coach Relationship:

The coaching staff of CCTC feels strongly that parent/guardian support is essential to the overall success of our track and field athletes. We understand that every parent/guardian loves their children unconditionally, is concerned about their child’s welfare, and wants the best for him/her. However, allowing the coach to instruct and guide the team without interference is extremely important for individual and team success.

Knowing when to discuss questions, concerns, or any specific situation is imperative for both individual and team success.  If you have questions or concerns about a particular program, assigned event, or situation, please do not approach the coach during practice, immediately after practice, or even at the conclusion of the meet.  These may be very emotional times for all participants. Parents/guardians are encouraged to call and make an appointment for a later date or for immediate information talk with Willie Morris in order to discuss the situation in a calm, courteous, and logical manner.

Finally, each coach will have the responsibility to conduct a brief meeting with his/her athletes at the conclusion of each meet, thus possibly delaying when the athletes depart.

These meetings will be brief in nature and will allow coaches and their athletes to discuss the race, upcoming events, and lessons to be learned. Allow for this time as plans are being made for your child’s pick-up and departure times.

CCTC Coaching Responsibility

Coaches understand that they are teachers and role models exemplifying the highest moral and ethical behavior. They view each practice and event as an opportunity to teach ethical values and conduct within the context of sports. Coaches model this behavior by their conduct towards the athletes, parents, officials and opponents, on and off the field.

Coaches have a responsibility to communicate their philosophy and expectations of athletes and the team to each athlete and parent. These expectations should include practice and meet schedules and locations, required equipment, and off-season conditioning programs. Coaches need to clearly explain team policies and disciplinary action that may result in an athlete being denied participation.

Coaches are expected to seek ongoing education and certification in areas such as skill development, strategy, training, conditioning and safety from which the individual athlete and the overall team will benefit.

Parents we cannot do it without You!!!
